The reform processes of YAMI
In 1951 Dharma Ratna Yami he made public announcement for a need of a cook in his house and the applicant should be from untouchable community. He came from a very conservative family and people made a hue and cry on this decision for the kitchen. Ram Maya (Haku) and her grand mother from untouchable community were recruited. A party was organized in his house and top category of political leaders (mostly Bhamins) were also invited then. He introduced the cook to the crowd. The next day he found the invitees of the party undergoing purification process through the pandits at Pashupati Nath temple.
Elderly community members of Dharma Ratna Yami even today don't eat eggs , don't touch chicken and meat. They use the products of duck. In 1951 he opened poultry farm containing 200 chicken on the fifth floor of his house making them visible to the outside world. All the community people including Poojarys raised hue and cry on breaking the practices. of the society then.
